We are so excited to celebrate Monique Johnson for #nationalsocialworkersmonth. Monqiue has worked full time at Ardsley High School for 26 years providing intervention (individual/group counseling, consultations, referrals), prevention services (activities/events to raise awareness about teen struggles), and wellness programs to 9th-12th grade students and their parents. She also owns a @gowestchestertherapy a part-time private clinical practice specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and dialectical behavioral therapy. In my private practice, I treat individuals ages 10- adults.
Why did you start working in social services? Since I was a little kid, I have wanted to assist others. I volunteered, shadowed other professions, and interned in community service positions at a young age. I loved helping others and making a difference in their lives. Can you tell us about the children/teens you serve? I have worked full-time at Ardsley High School for 26 years. I provide intervention (individual/group counseling, consultations, referrals), prevention services (activities/events to raise awareness about teen struggles), and wellness programs to 9th-12th grade students and their parents. I also own a part-time private clinical practice specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and dialectical behavioral therapy. In my private practice, I treat individuals ages 10- adults.
What are some of your biggest challenges? One of my biggest challenges is helping my students and patients get more intensive care; there are long waiting lists for psychiatrists and hospitals to evaluate people needing more intensive evaluations. What is your favorite part of the job? My favorite part of being a social worker is seeing the emotional growth develop in the individuals I treat. How did you learn about the Sharing Shelf? I heard about Sharing Shelf years ago from a colleague and have always wanted to contribute. I am so happy to have connected with your organization, organized a drive, and I will continue to support your outstanding work.
