The Sharing Shelf provides period products to each menstruating girl we serve. Girls are empowered to let us know what they prefer - tampons, pads or a mix of both. We add these items to their bag plus a new pack of underwear.
Unfortunately SNAP benefits, commonly known as food stamps, do not cover period products. While New York State passed a law excluding these items from sales tax, low-income teens and women must still purchase these monthly necessities using their limited resources. We also support food pantries and community groups and provide period products for their clients.
We accept donations of tampons, pad and mini-pads. We encourage volunteers to create period kits, with a month's supply of maxi-pads or tampons and mini-pads combined with a pack of new underwear.
